2016 Kia Soul

Sometimes, it seems that automakers forget about the utility portion of Sports Utility Vehicles and Crossover Utility Vehicles. Over the last decade, many OEMs have spent their time chopping tops, removing room in the name of style. 

From the Hamsters to its trademark cute façade and roofline, the Soul has always had style. As for the utility part of the quotient, a high roofline makes this the perfect crossover for everyone from families to college students to anyone with plenty of cargo. The roof also gives you the ability to fit adults in the back seats without issue. Plus, with fuel economy in the low 30s on the highway, you won't have to pay at the pump to carry all of that cargo, either.

If there's ever a car with a lot of 'soul,' the 2016 Soul is it. Sorry - we had to just once.
For 2016, Kia has added new features and trims like the Soul ! or Soul Exclaim. This model now serves as the top-of-the-line model and features a 164-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

As for standard models, you get a 130-horsepower 1.6-liter mill that can come mated to a six-speed manual. So, enthusiasts, watch out, because you can indeed row your own gears. Plus, Kia gives you a feature that's typically reserved only for expensive luxury cars - adjustable power steering. This system gives you three choices between Comfort, Normal and Sport, so you can choose just how much handling feedback you want on your daily commute through Rochester.

In the Goldilocks zone, you'll find the Soul + or Soul Plus. Like the Exclaim, the Plus has the bigger engine for more power but doesn't have quite as many features as the Exclaim. If you're looking for a great value that still gives you a lot of features, the Plus may be the way to go.
